T.S. Eliot -Thinking Activity

1.How would you like to explain Eliot's concept of Tradition? Do you agree with it?
Eliot has presented tradition in positive sense as it is not only inherited trend or any perticular method which should be followed, but he has given concept of merging past and present with the sense of history. Tradition is not only described in the sence of following but as an awareness of history to make future
2.What do you understand by Historical Sense? (Use these quotes to explain your understanding)
"The historical sense involves a perception, not only of the pastness of the past, but of its presence"
This historical sense, which is a sense of the timeless as well as of the temporal and of the timeless and of the temporal together, is what makes a writer traditional.
First quote:-The writer always have awareness & should be conscious for the past as well as the present time.when one is going to work on recent time he has also should keep in mind the past & with that philosophy he also should neglected the error of the past with the conscious of effective present.
Second quote:-Here I would say that, historical sense, the word here focus on the compromising elements of the past with the recent time.mingling of the past with the present called sense of historical use. As  we know the history always moves further, it contains the aspects of timeless & temporal work.
3. What is the relationship between “tradition” and “the individual talent,” according to the poet T. S. Eliot?
According to T.S.Eliot,tradition has the image of particular genius minds.Separately they contributes in traditional journey. In his creation they always depicts or rather involves the base & the flow of present time.they mostly try to be a member of present with the involvement of the past.
4.Explain: "Some can absorb knowledge, the more tardy must sweat for itShakespeare acquired more essential history from Plutarch than most men could from the whole British Museum".
This quote means, one who absorbs the knowledge becomes a great creative writer. Some may read a lot but are not able to create anything, while some just by using the power of their observation may become a great writer.
5.Explain: "Honest criticism and sensitive appreciation is directed not upon the poet but upon the poetry"
This quote means. We should disconnect a poet from poetry to pass a fair judgement. A poem should be judge by its words not by the history of the poet.
6.How would you like to explain Eliot's theory of ddepersonalization? You can explain with the help of chemical reaction in presence of catalyst agent, Platinum.
                    Emotions+Feelings=Poet's mind =Poetry.
Theory of depersonalisation by T.S.Eliot lights on the above structure. As we can say that during the process of writing poetry, poet's mind gets higher impact but as a conclusion it disappears.
7.Explain: " Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion; it is not the expression of personality, but an escape from personality."
As per T.S Eliot a poet writes poetry to escape from his emotions of life in which he suffers, it gives him pleasure and relief and he converts his original personality from a man to the poet.
8.Write two points on which one can write critique on 'T.S. Eliot as a critic'.
One can write critique on “T.S.Eliot as a critic” from the following points mentioned in his essay:
• "Honest criticism and sensitive appreciation is directed not upon the poet but upon the poetry."
• “Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion; it is not the expression of personality, but an escape from personality."
