Thinking activity on Cultural studies:Power and Media .

               First of all we have to know about culture.So what is Culture ?Answer is that   It is nearly impossible to define Cultural Studies in definite terms. It is difficult because the concept of Culture itself has been made ambiguous.               
             
             

              Culture is all about power, or culture is produced. Cultural studies focuses on mass or popular culture.The next question raises that what is power?
                 Power is the ability to make others do what you would have them do. It can be family, work place, relationship.The dynamics of power are never static. Power is not like evil, from which we have feel some anxiety, but it's like a fire.
                

                   Cultural studies is interested in the process by which power relations between and within group of human beings organize cultural artefact(food, music,sports etc)and their meaning.
                 

                 The study of cultural study is not complete without the study of power.Meaning are governed by power relations.Power since each artefact practice acquires legitimacy and value. Cultural issues and theme are mediated through questions of economy and politics.Culture is therefore about power.
              

                  Stuart Hall's Encoding/Decoding, set the scene for cultural studies of media ( his work on ideology, cultural identity and others are discussed). The essay argued that meanings within texts-songs, paintings, television soaps, are organised through the operation of certain 'codes'.

1. Physical force2. Wealth3. State action4. Social norms5. Ideas6. Number
                    

                     How power Operates?Power operates in three ways :
● Power is never static, it always moving...
● Power is like water, it goes on flowing...
●  Power compounds, power multiplies power...

Media:-    
        

                 Noam Chomsky gives five filters about Mass Media:

1.Media Ownership

2.Advertising 

3.Media Elite

4.Flack

5.The Common Enemy 
                 In this way Power and Media plays vital role in Cultural studies.
